At a recent Board of Directors meeting, longtime volunteer and employee of Camp Aranzazu, Tammie Shelton, was awarded the Executive Director position.
Shelton began serving Camp Aranzazu as a volunteer in early 2004 volunteering in all capacities of the camp from cleaning the pool to planning awareness-raisers. She joined the staff in early 2005 as Administrative Director which involved bookkeeping and risk management. Over the last five years, she has seen the camp grow from three user groups to over thirty. She has been a part of $2.5 million in capital improvements resulting in renovation of the existing buildings and additional buildings for the camp including a dormitory, a chapel, a pavilion, a ropes course and archery range.
Shelton received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in special physical education from Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, and is currently studying for a Master's degree in Non-Profit Management. She volunteers as an instructor and past president for Eels on Wheels Adaptive Scuba Club, a non-profit organization with a mission of teaching the disabled and ill how to scuba dive, which resulted in her being awarded a Corpus Christi Caller Times Jefferson Volunteer Award Medallion. Shelton has over 10 years experience creating programs for people with disabilities and over 25 years experience in business management.
She is actively involved in the community as a graduate of Leadership Aransas County Class X and a member of the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Corpus Christi.
“The camp has grown by leaps and bounds and I am so grateful to have been a part of it all from the very beginning. This is truly an honor I hold in high regard. I feel I am blessed to be at this camp,” explains Shelton.
“This promotion for Shelton is a very deserving one as she has been so instrumental in the growth of the camp. We are excited to support her in her new role as Executive Director,” states Camp Aranzazu’s President of the Board of Directors Tom Forney.
